Survival Log Characters Hub
Pick a role that matches how you like to stockpile and survive.
The Characters Hub explains how role fantasy changes the opening hours of Survival Log. You are not building a multiplayer party. You are choosing a single-player lens: worker grit, college student adaptability, warehouse clerk logistics instincts, and other routines that change what feels cheap or expensive before the outbreak.
Start with the overview
Characters Overview frames what roles change and what stays universal: hunger still ticks, Planning Points still ration your day, and zombies still test doors. Read it before you assume a role deletes whole systems.
Featured role deep dives
Worker suits players who like physical chores, hauling, and straightforward repair loops. College Student suits flexible planners who juggle study-like schedules, lighter budgets, and creative safehouse compromises. Warehouse clerk energy shows up across comparison notes when storage efficiency and stacking habits matter more than flashy exploration.
Compare before you commit
Roles Comparison is the decision page. Match roles to your preferred wiki route: heavy Stockpile Hub shopping, meticulous Safehouse Hub remodeling, or aggressive How to Explore city loops. If you hate managing diesel, do not pick a play pattern that assumes constant powered comfort without reading How to Manage Power.
Neighbors and human friction
Roles also change how you feel about rescue. A crowded safehouse stresses morale and food math from Hunger, Stamina, and Morale. Character choice will not remove that tension; it only changes which early tools you have to answer it.
Demo practice
Try at least two roles in the live demo before the 2026-08-12 launch window. Take notes with the Day Planner so you compare real days, not vibes. Then return to Getting Started with a role that matches your patience for hauling versus planning.
Identity versus checklist
Role identity is allowed to flavor chores. It is not allowed to veto checklists. If Worker pride skips cooking, stamina collapses. If student cleverness delays boards, nights collapse. Keep Priority Checklist above cosplay. The Characters Hub exists to choose a comfortable on-ramp, not a rules exemption.
Cast pressure
Even in single-player, rescued neighbors change the social temperature of the house. Roles change how quickly you can prepare for that temperature. Prepare rooms and calories first. Then invite stories. If your favorite role makes you rush rescue, counteract with stricter stockpile rules for one week of demo time.
Teaching roles to new players
Send beginners to overview and comparison first, not to a random deep dive. Then let them play eight quiet demo hours before switching. Constant rerolling prevents systems literacy. Characters are a seasoning pass after salt and oil exist.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common survivor questions.
Is there a best role for beginners?
Worker is often the most readable, but College Student can feel better if you enjoy tight Planning Points puzzles. Compare both in Roles Comparison.
Do roles change the ending?
Treat roles as early-route modifiers. Core safehouse, power, and zombie pressure still define success.
Where is warehouse clerk covered?
See the dedicated Warehouse Clerk page for Warehouse Keeper logistics, plus Characters Overview and Roles Comparison for fit against Worker and College Student.
Should I restart the demo for another role?
Yes if your first role fights your habits. A clean second demo run teaches faster than forcing a bad fit.
